Self assessment: Good altitude awareness (except #7), good canopy control, good awareness and memory during dive. Need to review exits - I've been looking down rather than up at plane, leading to diving exit. Need to fix legs - reason for coming to Perris tunnel. Need to remember what toe taps are for. Can't always relax. #1 Tandem July 1995 Las Vegas 11,000ft #2 Tandem June 2000 Hollister 18,000ft #3 AFF1 8/9/2003 Monterey First Jump Good: completed jump. Bad: hesitation in count after JM check-in. Flared a few feet high, PLF'd. #4 AFF2 9/6/2003 90 Turns, Forward Movement Good: ok after long weather layoff, better exit, good stable form at end of dive Bad: lazy legs #5 AFF3 9/6/2003 JMs release Good: still fine with exit, canopy flight, 15 seconds of release time Bad: went butt high at pull time leading to half roll and minor line twists. JM redocked for pull. Legs! REPEAT #6 AFF3-2 9/21/2003 Good: good release, hover, directional stability. Great jump Bad: got a little "ampy" towards pull time. #7 AFF4 9/21/2003 Release, 90 Turns, Forward Movement. Good: great right turn. Bad: couldn't go forward. Starting potato chipping. Legs too out, didn't recognize legs in signal. Stablized, but lost alti awareness. (Alti dial rotated 90 degrees - bad change). JM signalled COA at 6k, I waved and grabbed at PC, got my leg instead. Regrabbed, got JM's altimeter, JM then pulled for me at 5+. REPEAT #8 AFF4-2 10/11/2003 Good: altitude awareness fine, even when it got exciting. 20m accuracy. Bad: leg asymmetry led to hard 180 right turn on release. Compensated, but still no forward. Stiffened up and hard left turn - JM redocked to settle me. Flared late landing in light wind, hard impact. Frustrated. REPEAT New Venue - Perris, CA. They use an 8 step AFF - AFF2 is split up into 2 jumps #9 AFF4 4/30/2004 Release, 1 JM Good: good return to jumping, stable, altitude awareness Bad: legs a bit weak, minor backslide #10 AFF5 5/1/2004 180s, 360s, floating exit Good: good pair of 180s at 7000 in time for pull. Bad: still working on the legs out. #11-1 AFF6 5/1/2004 solo unstable exit, tracking,360s WIND HOLD - rode plane down #11-2 AFF6 5/2/2004 (VIDEO/STILLS) Good: great 4s tumble and easy recovery to stable. Good 360. Bad: no track - bad backsliding on jump due to hands too forward. #12 AFF7 5/2/2004 solo floating exit, fall rate, tracking Good: recovered from tumbling exit, great 180 and track before pull. Cleared to final level! Bad: blew simple exit, tumbled 3000ft to get stable (legs kicking). not able to adjust fall rate like in tunnel. No time to finish, had to go home! New Assessment: Good stability, altitude awareness, exits are ok but can be improved. Legs still prone to weakness, but can move forward and track at least some of the time. Feeling more comfortable about whole thing. Landings are on target, but need to work on flare timing and strength, esp in low winds. Back to Monterey #13-1 AFF6 5/15/04 Backflips, tracking WIND HOLD - called off 20ft from plane. #13-2 AFF5 5/29/04 360s, forward motion Good: finally back in air. Cessna exit fun/hard. Bad: down another level again for silly reasons, worse go on to fail the level. Legs getting lazy with the time off, no forward motion, much backsliding. REPEAT #14 AFF5-2 5/31/04 Good: got legs right, first stand up landing, accuracy Bad: initially not aggressive enough with legs out. #15 AFF6 6/12/04 Backflips, tracking Good: better exit, on heading flip, two tracks done Bad: don't drag feet hooks during track #16 AFF7 6/12/04 Graduation Jump Good: got beer signal. did flip, 360s, track, stand up landing/accuracy in high winds. Landed vertical. Bad: tumbled a little on exit, on backflip. Pulled a bit high. Amped up. #17 Solo 6/19/04 Good: first alone! Interesting opening handled. Bad: landing flare high #18 Solo 6/19/04 Good: Decent landing path in traffic, ok flare. Bad: leg straps too loose, chippy, unrelaxed #19 Solo 6/26/04 Good: Perfect poised exit on Skyvan. Bad: Fast, hard landing. #20 Solo 6/26/04 Good: Fun dive out rear gate. Bad: again jittery, pulled a bit higher than I thought. still not landing 265 well in no wind.
